The unique feature of Connotation lies in its division into two distinct areas: public and private. The public area allows the owner to entertain friends and family, accommodating their different lifestyles. Meanwhile, the private area provides individual family members with their own independent spaces, ensuring privacy and personal comfort. This design allows for harmonious coexistence while also providing opportunities for rest and relaxation together.
The realization of Connotation involves the use of various materials such as stone, iron, mirror, glass, titanium plate, and crepe. The combination of these materials adds depth and texture to the space, while also presenting the essence of each material. The interior space spans 165 m2, providing ample room for the design to come to life.
In the public area, travertine is used extensively to highlight the smoked solid wood texture, which is complemented by iron, mirror, and titanium plate accents. Natural coatings are applied to ensure the owner's well-being and to showcase the true nature of the materials. This design not only resonates with the owner's refined lifestyle but also presents an elegant and sophisticated living space.
The private area of Connotation utilizes teak and oak to create a bright and inviting atmosphere. The inclusion of balconies allows for a closer connection between the indoors and outdoors, providing a peaceful retreat from the bustling city center. This design aims to rejuvenate the tired soul and offer a serene environment for retirement.
The Connotation project commenced in October 2018 and was completed in March 2019 in Tainan, Taiwan. Throughout the design process, the challenge was to present the essence of natural materials with minimal processing. The goal was to maintain the authenticity and tactile experience of the materials, allowing users to interact with real wood, stone, metal, fabric, mirror, and glass.
Connotation has been recognized for its excellence and creativity, receiving the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2019. This prestigious award acknowledges designs that demonstrate ingenuity and resourcefulness, incorporating best practices in art, science, design, and technology. Connotation not only showcases strong technical and creative skills but also contributes to improving the quality of life.
